Our Annual Meetings

Re-union invitations

Ann Reed, on behalf of the Committee, issues the formal invitation and details for each year's Annual Re-union.  You should find them somewhere on this site!

111 years after the Sisters of Charity, fleeing anti-clerical sentiment in France, first started teaching the poor of Filey, we Filey Convent School Old Girls continue to meet for our annual re-union.  The Association was founded in 1949 as a means for former pupils (girls AND boys!) to keep in touch both with one another and, until its closure,  the school.  We have met every year since.

Our annual reunion meetings

We meet the first weekend after Easter (come hail, snow or sea-fret); Saturday evening starts with 6.00 Mass at St Mary's and continues with a meal in a local restaurant.  Sunday morning sees us in one of the old school rooms (the buildings are now multi-purpose local council offices, named Evron Centre in tribute to the nuns) on Cargate Hill, for coffee at 10.30am and after the Annual General Meeting we will have lunch and continue our get-together at a local venue -  the Golf Club in West Street was a popular innovation in 2014.  We usually run out of tea, breath but not memories or laughs by 4.00pm.  God willing, Sister Anne Marie and others will be with us.  You'll find this year's formal invitation letter and full details of the weekend here.

As well as innumerable cups of tea, chat, food, chat, drink, chat, there will be a raffle to raise funds for the Sisters working in Central America, and did I mention chat?

Regular attendees

Attendance at the reunions is around 50 people and the age range is from [65 - 85], so if you attended school from 1940 onwards there's a good chance someone else from your year will be here.
